iron man

Remember how I mentioned I had a mystery project in my last work in progress update? Well here it is, IRON MAN! This is my first fully completed digital painting. All of my 30 minute sketches have been leading up to a more in depth effort. I think all of the forced practice really helped prepare me for this.

I painted Iron Man as a gift for Kara’s father, hence the secrecy. It took somewhere between 15-20 hours over the course of about a week and a half. I finished just a day before we left for Michigan. I am all about crunch time. Here is a look at the final product.

I’ve also included a few progression pictures. In the first couple you can see my workspace…well sort of, the pictures are a bit dark.

Once the image was complete, I was fortunate enough to have a friend with a larger format printer. Thanks to Kyle Brown for his help in getting the print made. The final image is the print framed up and waiting to be hung.

The gift was well received and a great test of my abilities. I am eager to start more digital paintings but I need to finish Michonne first. Please leave me some comments below and share with your favorite social network.
